Geachte dames en heren,
Deze Nieuwsbrief is grotendeels gewijd aan het werk van de Zusters in Jokolandi. Dit valt onder het Bisdom Bubaneswar in de Provincie Orissa. De Zusters verzorgen een crèche van verlaten kleine kinderen’, die wij al lange tijd steunen. Maar zij vangen ook grotere kinderen op, die op straat zwerven en weinig toekomst hebben. Klas 5 van de bijbehorende school krijgt ook ondersteuning van enkele sponsors.
Hieronder een ontroerende beschrijving van hun werk, geschreven door het hoofd Sr. Luke.
A BRIEF REPORT ON THE CRECHE COURSE FOR THE SLUM CHILDREN IN JOKALANDI, BHUBANESWAR
ABOUT THE ST.JOSEPH’S SISTERS
The sisters of St. Joseph have been rendering the socio pastoral and apostolate services for the downtrodden marginalized and slum dwellers of Odisha since 1988. Presently the Sisters are having one house at Jokalandi, Bharatpur, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Besides the spiritual development, they are engaged in conducting various socio developmental activities such as Primary & upper-Primary School, a Community college for skilling the unemployed youths and a Health care center.
The sisters are mainly working for the slum dwellers and Bharatpur is a big slum of Bhuabneswar city nearly 15000 of Dalit and Adivasi communities. Mostly the slum dwellers are engaged in rag picking, rickshaw pulling, daily laboring, etc. and get very minimal amount which is not adequate to survive their family. In this case they are unable to send their children to school or unable to pay their children school fees.
Meanwhile the Sisters of St. Josephs’ collect these slum children and educate them providing all the support. The number of children in the school grows consistently which has reached 550 in the academic year.
ABOUT THE CRECHE COURSES FOR CHILDREN OFFERED BY ST.JOSEPH’S SISTERS
It is a continual support received Stichting Kinderhulp India Uden for the care of small children belong the slum dwellers of the Bharatpur region in Capital city of Bhubaneswar. At present there are 30 children receiving this support directly. They are given all the facility to grow physically, mentally and spiritually. They are given nutritional food, learning & play materials. They are also taught on the spiritual classes, love, affection, kind, discipline and punctuality that will help them live a noble life with a good starting of their childhood. This will lead them to love and to be loved and cared by the loving father God the Almighty. By and large, they come to our centre at 9 am and go by 12 pm when their parents come. During this time they receive parental love, care and guidance. This programme was mostly looked after by the Sisters Superior Lourdes Mary which was stopped for some days after her demise. However after a pause, we the Sisters have resumed this programme in remembrance of the loving Sisters who has rewarded for heaven.
The people of this area are too happy with our service. Children are also making effort to grow in different aspect of their life to come out with fine colours. These poor, neglected unloved children need our presence so that they too can experience Gods beautiful creation like any other children and sing the glory of God. To carry out our mission in a fitting manner we need more financial support. We are grateful for your generosity and prayerful support through which these poor children of the slum are able to experience the love of God and grow in their lives. Thanks a lot for all that you are doing for these poor children of the slum. Our prayers are with you always.The people of this area are too happy with our service. Nieuwe Don Bosco school in Thakurganar
Helaas is er vertraging, omdat de aanschaf van de benodigde grond problemen geeft. Er is goede hoop dat de bouw nu binnen afzienbare tijd kan beginnen.
